Welcome to the UAlbany Save A Life Suicide Prevention Training Program.
As a member of the UAlbany Community, you play a key role in responding to mental health concerns and risk for suicide among our students. We appreciate your taking the time to complete this training program, and we hope that the training will provide you with valuable information to assist you in responding to students in distress.
What follows are 4 Modules which will focus on myths about suicide, the nature of mental health concerns at UAlbany, risk factors and warning signs for suicide, what to say to a student in distress, and support resources available to UAlbany students.
The four Save-A-Life training modules can be completed in less than one hour and do not need to be completed in one sitting.
However, if you pause partway through the training, please note that the course will appear as "Completed" on the Percipio/Skillsoft Platform.
To reaccess the training, click on your name in the top right of the main Percipio page, then select "Training History". If you return to the training using the same computer and browser, you will be placed at the point in the training on Qualtrics at which you left off. For this reason, we recommend using the same computer and browser if you do not complete the training in one sitting.
In order for us to evaluate the training program, you will be asked to complete an optional pre-test and post-test, each of which will take no more than five minutes; responses to these items will not be linked to identifying information about you, and all data will be analyzed in aggregate. Though the survey is optional, we ask that you provide your role (e.g., faculty, staff, student) so that you may receive the training that is most applicable to your role on campus. As pre-test and post-test data is being collected exclusively for the purpose of monitoring the quality of our outreach services, Institutional Review Board approval is not required.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Eric Tifft, M.A., UAlbany Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention Grant Project Coordinator, at etifft@albany.edu.
Thank you for your time and commitment to supporting the well-being and success of our students.
